Automations: schedules, triggers and dates
Run edits on their own at set times, when a product changes, or on a date.

An automation is an edit that runs on its own, so you don't have to repeat it. You find them under Automations.
When an automation can run
- On a schedule. Once later, or on a repeat, such as every month on a set day. Times use your store's time zone.
- When a product is created, updated, or either. It runs on each product a few seconds after it appears or changes. Only use this for changes that are safe to run again, like setting a fixed value or adding a tag.
- On a date. It runs once on each product a set number of days before or after one of its own dates, such as when it was created or published, or a date held in a metafield, like a sale-end date. Only dates that come after you create the automation count.
Choose which products
Add conditions to limit the automation to the products you want. You can require all conditions, or any of them, and Moddi shows how many products currently match.
What happens to the result
- Send to Shopify straight away: the changes go live as soon as it runs.
- Leave as drafts for me to review: the changes wait in the Products editor, and nothing reaches Shopify until you press Update.
Hand-made edits are protected
By default an automation only fills blanks and refreshes values it set itself. It never touches edits waiting to be sent. You can switch on "Replace values edited by hand" if you want it to overwrite them.
Inventory
Automations don't run when only stock changes, because stock changes so often. Switch on "Also run when inventory changes" if an automation needs it.
Keeping track
Each run is recorded in History, and an automation that needs attention is flagged on the Automations page. You can turn any automation on or off with its switch.
